This website is operated by The Number, which is the trading name of The Number UK Limited ( 4352737) of Fusion Point, Dumballs Road, Cardiff CF10 5BF (“The Number” or “we”) We are part of the kgb group of companies, which includes inter alia, 118 118 Money and Conduit Global, all together the “Group”.

We comply with data protection legislation such as the Data Protection Act 1998. This regulates the processing of personal data relating to you and grants you various rights in respect of your personal data.

The aim of this statement is to tell you how we will collect, use and retain any personal data you provide through this website. Please read it carefully before you proceed.


The Number is committed to providing the highest quality directory services for its users. In order to provide the highest quality service, we do collect some personal information from and may invite you to update that information, be it your business listing information, profile information, ratings or reviews that have been posted online. We are committed to ensuring that all your personal information that is collected will be held securely so that we and any other companies in our Group that you have dealings with, either now or in the future, can manage your relationship with us.. We will ensure that our website is absolutely secure in its collection and use of your personal information. We also collect (automatically) some information about your computer when you visit For example, we will collect session data, including your IP address, Web browser software, and referring Web site. We also may collect information about your online activity, such as content viewed and pages visited. One of our goals in collecting this automatic information is to help us understand the interests of our users and customize your user experience.

We may also monitor and record communications between us, including telephone calls and emails. We may use this information for training purposes, to meet our legal and regulatory obligations, for quality assurance and to keep a record of the products and services you order from us.

Licensed telecommunications operators provide us with information about their customers to enable us to add their details to our directories. We also make telephone numbers available through our directory enquiry services unless those licensed telecommunications operators have informed us that those telephone numbers are ex-directory.

We use the information we collect for the following general purposes: for updating business listing information, registration, including to facilitate your access to and use of our site; to communicate with you in general (including for example and without limitation, via email, telephone or SMS), including to provide information about; to enable us to publish your reviews, ratings, and other content to the 118 118 site; to measure interest in and improve our products, services, and Web site; to notify you about special offers and products or services available from us and other companies in our Group or our partners that may be of interest to you; to otherwise customize your experience with 118 118; to solicit information from you, including through surveys; to resolve disputes or troubleshoot problems; administer offers, competitions, organise market research and promotions, to prevent potentially prohibited or illegal activities; to enforce our Terms of Use; and as otherwise described to you at the point of collection.

We may also use the information to:

  • Administer, update, consolidate, improve and manage the accuracy of our records and our business including but not limited to meeting legal, regulatory and compliance requirements and operating rules (such as regulatory reporting requirements and record maintenance);

If these are based outside the EEA, your personal information may not be protected to standards similar to those in the UK. For example, we use our call centre in the Philippines for customer service calls.

Depending on the nature of your request, you may have the opportunity to opt-out of these sharing practices in limited circumstances. In addition, we reserve the right to use and disclose all information that is not in individually identifiable form as we deem appropriate in our sole discretion.

We do not collect or keep your personal data unless it is strictly necessary for the above purposes. We do not keep it for longer than is necessary either. If you want to know exactly what personal information The Number holds on you, you can obtain it. If it transpires that the information held is inaccurate, we will make the necessary amendments and confirm to you that these have been made. From time to time, we may wish with your agreement to contact you by email, SMS, post or phone with information about other products or services which may be of interest to you. These communications may be from us or other members of our Group or it may be from other organisations whose products or services we think may be of interest to you. We will only transfer your personal data to third parties for marketing purposes with your express opt-in consent to do so.


How long we keep your information for depends on the basis on which it was provided. Generally, however, we will keep the information that is necessary to enable us to provide you with a service that you have requested through this website for as long as it takes us to provide that service.

118 118: 3rd Party Market Survey

When calling 118 118, our agents may ask if you wish to be contacted to take part in some market research using the following question; “In the future, we would like to contact you to take part in some market research, is that ok”.  If you say yes, our agents will follow up with, “Thank you. If you require further detail about the research, please see our Privacy Policy on“.

The market research is being undertaken to help us understand our customers’ experience of 118 118.

If you agree that we can contact you by providing your opt-in permission to our agents, then your phone number will be passed to a 3rd party called 2CV, who is undertaking the market research survey on our behalf. Your phone number will be sent securely to 2CV who will aim to contact you within approximately 21 days of your call to 118 118 to run through a short 10 minute telephone interview with you. You do not have to take part in the telephone interview and can choose to decline participation. You can also opt-out of being contacted by 118 118 by calling 118 118 Customer care to ensure that we do not contact you again. 2CV will only store your phone number for the purpose of the market survey and will delete it 28 days after the end of the project, once the survey is completed or you decline taking part.

When collecting your permission to contact you in the future, 118 118 is storing your phone number details in a secure location and will only use them for market research purposes as per the question “In the future, we would like to contact you to take part in some market research, is that ok?. We also store the recording of the 118 118 call where your opt-in permission was obtained. You are able to be removed from the opt-in database at any time by contacting our Customer Care team directly on 0800 3891 118 from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

Your opt in permission will be stored within our database for 182 days, after which time it will be deleted.

The way in which 118 118 is collecting your opt-in consent complies with all current data regulations including GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations)
